Minnesota Lawyer blog gets recognized (sort of, anyway)

I was recently reading an online article on the The Rake site about the the growing importance of Web media ("All the News that Fits and Then Some.") Since Minnesota Lawyer is both a print and online information provider, it is with some interest that I read such thoughtful reflections on how the migration of readers to the Internet has affected the media industry.

The Rake included the results of a survey of "a bevy of local online media folks" asking them where they go on the Web for news. The Rake listed the top 25 responses or so, and lo and behold, there was the Minnesota Lawyer blog on the list! I felt pretty good about that until I tried the link to our blog in the article and discovered it was faulty. Sigh. Being an online news provider is all about being humble.

Thanks for the nod -- and congrats on being considered one of the Internet intelligentsia! I still get ink-stains on my keyboard, so I am not "fully integrated" yet. ;0)

I would like to thank all of the readers/ participants in this blog. The Minnesota Lawyer editorial staff started this as an experiment a year ago next month. It has received an amazing amount of interest since that time and has proved a great tool to interact with the legal community. We appreciate your continued support of and interest in the Minnesota Lawyer blog.

How ironic, of course, to have read the news this morning about the shuttering of the Rake's print edition and dismissal of its entire reporting staff. A sad day for many of us.

Yeah, I heard about the Rake and was also very saddened by the news that its print edition has been discontinued and that virtually the entire staff had lost their jobs. It's a true loss to the Twin Cities media community.

Hopefully, that news had nothing to do with the mention the Rake made of the Minnesota Lawyer blog. As I recall, Steve Perry mentioned our blog on the Daily Mole not long before he shuttered that operation and joined Minnesota Monitor. I hope the Minnesota Lawyer blog is not becomming the black widow of online media ....
