Legendary criminal defense lawyer passes

Legendary Minnesota criminal defense attorney Doug Thomson has died after a lengthy illness. Thomson -- who tried many high-profile cases, including the T. Eugene Thompson murder trial in the 1960s -- was at one time widely recognized as one of the top people in his field.

Thomson's former partner, Hennepin County District Court Judge Jack Nordby, said of Thomson: "He was better than any lawyer I have ever known, with the exception of F. Lee Bailey, at giving a closing argument. I saw him win case after case that were just losers based on his closing argument."
